Injectable toxins (or neuromodulators) like Botox are used to improve the appearance of dynamic fine lines and wrinkles – the signs of aging that form as a result of repeated expressions. Botox and other wrinkle relaxers work by temporarily relaxing the underlying muscle activity responsible for facial movement, thereby softening its contraction and the fine lines and wrinkles.
Dr. Dugan uses Botox for those with bothersome dynamic facial expression lines and wrinkles, as well as deep furrows that make one appear tired, angry, sad, or upset, and for those who desire to recapture their youthful appearance without surgery.
Results with wrinkle relaxers like Botox can be seen within 1-2 weeks and can last 3-4 months. Botox can be combined with dermal fillers or other skin rejuvenation treatments such as Fractora, chemical peels, MC Collagen facial, or Hydrafacial for a synergistic result.
In addition to minimizing the appearance of lines and wrinkles, Botox can be used for medical purposes such as controlling chronic migraine, an overactive bladder, vaginismus (pelvic pain and pelvic muscle spasm), and excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis).
Unlike Botox, which targets the underlying muscles that produce wrinkles, dermal fillers restore volume to provide contour and shape as well as correct lines, wrinkles, and furrows. Many dermal fillers consist of a clear gel formulation of hyaluronic acid that is specifically created to act like your body’s own naturally produced hyaluronic acid, while other dermal fillers work by encouraging your skin’s natural collagen production.
Dermal fillers can be used in the upper face to fill furrows and creases. While you may see some initial improvement immediately, dermal fillers tend to take three to four days to fully settle. Depending on what dermal filler is used and where, you can enjoy improvement from six months up to two years.

Kybella is a different type of injectable treatment. The minimally invasive deoxycholic acid injections work by breaking down the excess tissue in the submental and neck areas and eliminating them through the body’s natural purification process. By using a synthetic version of an acid already produced by the human body, Kybella is a very safe and low-risk procedure. The most common side effects are mild and include swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness, and hardness in the area that was treated.
Once treated with Kybella, the eliminated fat cells are gone for good.
