Liposuction is an effective body contouring procedure when diet and exercise have reached their plateau and resistant pockets of fat refuse to budge. Liposuction can slim and contour the body into a more defined shape. Most areas of the body can be treated with liposuction. Dr. Dugan performs the procedure under local anesthesia with oral sedation. Surgical tumescent liposuction is the traditional liposuction where a solution containing a local anesthetic and tumescent fluid is introduced beneath the skin in the treatment area. The tumescent solution is used not only for anesthesia, but also to minimize bleeding and bruising. Once the area to be treated is anesthetized, a thin metal tubular device, known as a cannula, is inserted through the skin into the underlying layer of fat. Next, the fat cells are removed by aspiration. The amount of fat removed can range from several ounces to a few pounds.
As an adjunct to traditional liposuction, Dr. Dugan employs BodyTite, or radio frequency assisted liposuction (RFAL). BodyTite uses electrical current waves to liquefy fat and coagulate blood vessels to minimize any post-operative pain, bruising, or swelling. This device is also used as a minimally invasive method of skin tightening for those who are looking to avoid incisional surgeries. The electrical current waves of BodyTite, result in a soft tissue contraction of up to 35%. At the time of consultation, Dr. Dugan will review the surgical options and determine if the patient is a candidate for BodyTite.
Liposuction is an outpatient procedure that will take 1-3 hours, depending on the treatment area(s) and what has been discussed during your consultation with Dr. Dugan. Most patients will be able to return to work within 3-5 days, and normal exercise in 3-4 weeks. To allow appropriate healing and promote the best results, the patient will be required to wear a post-liposuction compression garment for four weeks. This garment is used to wrap the treated area to allow the body to heal in the ideal shape, position, and contours. The compression garments can be worn under any clothing and are quite comfortable.
Liposuction is considered a cosmetic procedure and is not covered by insurance. The cost for liposuction can range depending on the amount of fat that needs to be removed, and the number of areas to be treated. In general, a single-zone liposuction procedure will range from $3800 to $6800 for the first zone with subsequent zone discounting for second, third and fourth zones. This fee includes surgery, pre-operative and post-operative appointments, anesthesia, and facility fee. Financing is available.
